Ready for the second Movie Night of this academic year! A perfect opportunity to unwind, meet fellow students, and enjoy a great film together.
Tonight we’re screening the stop-motion animation film: Memoir of a Snail. A bittersweet memoir of a melancholic woman named Grace Pudel – a collector of snails, romantic novels and guinea pigs.
‘You can only understand a life in hindsight, but you have to live it forwards.’ This is just one of the many beautiful little pearls of wisdom in this tragicomic stop-motion film by Australian director Elliot (Mary and Max). The main character and snail-obsessed Gracie Pudel looks back on a difficult life, in which she was bullied as a child because of her cleft lip, was separated from her adored brother at an early age, and had little luck in love. And yet it is not a sombre film. Rather, it is an ode to the outsider, for whom small moments of happiness can make life bearable.
