Critical Mass | Looksmaxxing? A satirical workshop

Who are you when the facades crumble and the lights go out? Who do you want to be when no one is judging? In this Critical Mass, we’ll go underground and explore The Hidden. In the era of looksmaxxing, what does it mean to focus on imperfection? What blossoms in the dark when beauty standards no longer apply?
The Hidden is a real place underground. A place under the layer of debris that separates the surface from the underworld. Tonight, you will be taken along to see what cannot stand the light of day. To rebel against what is expected of you above ground. You can breathe underground.
Join Nastia Cistakova, our guide to the Hidden, and confront your own Instagram face during this workshop. Using various materials, you will transform your face into a new, distinctive look. You don't have to become more beautiful. You don't even have to remain recognizable. So pull, paste, build, deform, and derail. What if, instead of a lip flip, you had giant cat-like whiskers sewn onto your face? Or a tea spout for a nose? What emerges when your inside is allowed to surface?
Nastia Cistakova is an illustrator, artist and performer who mainly focusses on human rights. In her art she takes on the role of commentator of the socio-cultural aspects of modern life. Nastia uses art-making as a way to make sense of the chaos in her head and share these thoughts with others.
Before we get started, we kick things off in a relaxed way with a delicious pizza. Grab a slice, get to know other changemakers, and fuel up for tonight's Critical Mass session.
Critical Mass is the experimental platform of Studium Generale TU Delft at theater DE VESTE, where you actively explore new ideas and futures together with experts and a small group of participants. The sessions are in English. Come and discover along with us, allow yourself to be surprised.

De visie is dat academische vorming verder gaat dan alleen het verwerven van kennis: het draait ook om maatschappelijke betrokkenheid, ethische overwegingen en het vermogen om buiten bestaande kaders te denken.
De programma’s van SG zijn toegankelijk voor studenten, TU-medewerkers én andere geïnteresseerden. Iedereen met een nieuwsgierige geest is van harte welkom.
