Nieuwe Philharmonie o.l.v. Johannes Leertouwer

Het is een jaarlijkse Leidse traditie: de Nieuwe Philharmonie onder leiding van Johannes Leertouwer speelt in de dagen voor kerst een intieme uitvoering van dit meesterwerk in de Grote Zaal.
De Messiah
De Messiah van George Frideric Handel is een klassieker in het oratoriumgenre dat fascineert en ontroert sinds het voor het eerst werd uitgevoerd in 1742. Het stuk, geschreven voor orkest, koor en zangsolisten, vertelt het verhaal van de profetieën, geboorte, lijden, opstanding en verheerlijking van Jezus Christus zoals verteld in de Bijbel.
De Messiah zit vol met emotie en dramatiek: van tedere en ontroerende aria’s tot de volklinkende koordelen. De kleuren en texturen van de instrumentatie, samen met het gebruik van contrapunt en harmonie, dragen bij aan de diepte en muzikale rijkdom van dit meesterwerk. Ondanks de christelijke achtergrond van dit werk beroert de tijdloze boodschap van hoop, vreugde en verlossing publiek van alle achtergronden en heeft het een onuitwisbare plaats ingenomen in de canon van de klassieke muziek.

De Nieuwe Philharmonie
De Nieuwe Philharmonie is een projectorkest waarin ‘side-by-side’ musiceren centraal staat: ervaren professionals, jonge professionals en studenten spelen op gelijkwaardige manier samen. Het orkest fungeert als een laboratorium, waarin resultaten van historisch onderzoek worden uitgeprobeerd en worden omgezet in klank. Dit zorgt voor een bijzondere muziekbeleving, voor zowel het publiek als de musici.

The Messiah
