Chen Halevi, Daniel Rowland & Friends

Onze huisvriend Daniel Rowland zet in dit weergaloze concert de Argentijnse componist Osvaldo Golijov in de spotlight. Daarvoor neemt hij een aantal internationale topmusici mee, die nauw bevriend zijn met de componist.

De muziek van Osvaldo Golijov is een genre op zichzelf. Als kind van een Roemeense pianolerares en een Oekraïense arts die naar Argentinië waren geëmigreerd, groeide hij op tussen de klassieke (kamer)muziek, joodse liturgische muziek, klezmer en niet te vergeten de tango’s van Astor Piazzolla. In Golijovs unieke klankwereld komen al deze stijlen samen, zonder dat het een lappendeken wordt: ze vormen een zeer overtuigend geheel.
Het kleurrijke, opzwepende en aangrijpende klarinetkwintet The dreams and prayers of Isaac the blind is een grandioze openbaring en het buitengewoon ontroerende Tenebrae is van een tijdloze kwaliteit.  Het stuk was geïnspireerd door Couperin.

Daniel Rowland neemt een keur aan internationale topmusici mee, die nauw bevriend zijn met de componist. Chen Halevi, Floor le Coultre, Dana Zemtsov, Maja Bogdanovic en Natacha Kudritskaya. Naast de muziek van Golijov spelen zij muziek die Golijov beïnvloedde, zoals Couperins Pièces de clavecin en muziek die net als het werk van Golijov gebaseerd is op joodse klanken, zoals Blochs prachtige gebed en Prokofjevs Ouverture op Hebreeuwse Thema’s.

In this matchless concert, our friend Daniel Rowland puts the spotlight on the Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov. To do so, he brings with him a number of top international musicians who are close friends of the composer.

Osvaldo Golijov’s music is a genre on its own. As the child of a Romanian piano teacher and a Ukrainian doctor who had emigrated to Argentina, he grew up among classical (chamber) music, Jewish liturgical music, klezmer, not to mention the tangos of Astor Piazzolla.In Golijov’s unique sound world, all these styles come together without becoming like a patchwork: they form a very compelling unity.
The colorful, uplifting and moving clarinet quintet The dreams and prayers of Isaac the blind is a grandiose revelation and the extraordinarily moving Tenebrae is of a timeless quality. It was inspired by Couperin.

Daniel Rowland brings with him a host of top international musicians who are close friends of the composer. In addition to Golijov’s music, they will play music that influenced Golijov, such as Couperin’s Pièces de clavecin and music that, like Golijov’s work, is based on Jewish sounds, such as Bloch’s beautiful prayer and Prokofiev’s Overture on Hebrew Themes.
