When the Los Angeles-based rockband Dummy returned home after being on the road for two years, they dove straight back into the studio. A creatively restless band, Dummy wanted to get harder, dancier, more psychedelic for their next record. The result is ‘Free Energy’, a record that celebrates music’s ability to move the body, whether that be through a teeth-rattling wall of MBV-esque noise, a sticky pop chorus, or a joyous drum machine—or, if you’re Dummy, maybe all of them in the same song.
Support Wishy is like a kaleidoscope, with elements of shoegaze, grunge and power-pop swirling together, creating new shapes and sounds as they go. Initially, their music oscillated between hazy dream-pop and heavier alt-rock. Their debut album, ‘Triple Seven‘, is set to be released in August. Sometimes gorgeous, sometimes festering, and always cathartic, Triple Seven is a vibrant and exhilarating document of self-discovery with the scope and heft of the bygone big-budget rock albums that inspired it.
