Chaya Chobi is a short film screening platform founded by Avita Maheen in 2022. The platforms focus is on short films in experimental and contemporary nature under the backdrop of ambient cinema. Chaya Chobi has previously been presented in underground locations across the Netherlands as well as at Whitechapel Gallery in the UK.
Chaya Chobi x WORM on 21.05.25 will present the works of Pedro Gossler and Yelim Ki, Brazilian and South Korean filmmakers based in The Netherlands. This program brings together two films that explore the fragmentation of identity and narrative in a world shaped by failing technologies and speculative truths. Princess follows a character’s struggle to reconstruct memory in a disintegrating digital landscape, where the self dissolves through synthetic voices and obsolete machines. In Fanfictional Politics, fact and fiction blur as conspiracy theories, internet culture, and political mythologies collide to expose how power is constructed and distorted. Together, the films reveal a world where both personal and political realities are unstable, mediated, and absurdly entangled.
The program concludes with an artist talk following the film screenings.
Fanfictional Politics
Directed by Pedro Gossler
2022, Netherlands, 30mins, English and Russian w/ English subtitles
Fanfictional Politics by Pedro Gossler utilizes online conspiracy theories and objective facts to show how political narratives are constructed and manipulated out of opinions, ambitions, opportunities, delusions, memories, and a few certitudes. Against a backdrop of all-consuming media mistrust, the very concepts of good and evil, right and left, human and inhuman, have lost meaning. In this metaphysical wasteland we wonder at the grim absurdity of what is presented as fact. Find out about Steve Bannon’s World of Warcraft sweatshop operation and how it contributed to Donald Trump’s presidency win. Think about the symbolic and literal significance of the table in political power struggles––and how it can all be connected to Vladislav Surkov, Putin’s personal advisor until February 2020. What if it’s the fans who know what’s really going on, better than the haters and
those who don’t really care?

Princess
by Yelim Ki
2024, South Korea, Georgia, Netherlands, 26mins, English w/ English and Korean subtitles
In a disintegrating landscape of immortal life, "Princess" follows the main character, Xana. As he struggles to recall his memory in order. An old tape machine becomes both a tool and an obsolete artifact, capturing the protagonist’s collapsing sense of self. Synthetic vocal layers and monologues reveal an identity constantly dissolving and reforming in abstraction. The film explores the brutal erosion of human presence, where technological promise fails to stabilize consciousness, leaving only fleeting fragments of a once-coherent existence.
About the artist
Yelim Ki (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist who challenges the intersections of cinematic images mediated on screen and material reality through video, sculpture, and interactive media.
