Exposition: The City as a Black Box

There are endless ways to look at an encounter between random people. In her photographic project Anna Theunissen investigates the ambiguity that springs up when strangers run into each other on the street: the moment of noticing one another can establish a connection, but it can also dissolve just as quickly. Theunissen’s work shows how each person in the city takes part in a carousel of encounters—where they meet, bid farewell, return home, and begin anew the following day.
