De blokfluit in de hoofdrol
Wie blokfluit associeert met kinderliedjes en verplichte lessen op de muziekschool, heeft de Nederlandse blokfluitiste Lucie Horsch nog nooit horen spelen. De 25-jarige Horsch, winnaar van de Nederlandse Muziekprijs, een Edison én een Opus Klassik Award, is vurig pleitbezorger van de kwaliteit en inzetbaarheid van muziek voor blokfluit door de eeuwen heen. In De stem van de blokfluit staat muziek centraal van twee barokcomponisten die beiden een liefde hadden voor dit kleine instrument: de Italiaanse Antonio Vivaldi en de Duitse Johann Sebastian Bach. Waar de muziek van Bach gekenmerkt wordt door contrapunt en structuur, laat Vivaldi de blokfluit dansen en stralen. Geïnspireerd door Vivaldi’s benadering schrijft de jonge Nederlandse componist Reza Namavar speciaal voor dit concert een nieuw werk voor Horsch en het Orkest van de 18e Eeuw, waarin Horsch zowel als solist als muzikaal leider optreedt.

Het Orkest van de 18e Eeuw staat bekend als een vooraanstaand orkest op het gebied van de historisch geïnformeerde uitvoeringspraktijk. Opgericht door dirigent Frans Brüggen en violiste Lucy van Daal verwierf het orkest begin jaren ‘80 wereldfaam door groot symfonisch repertoire uit te voeren op originele instrumenten. Sindsdien blijft het Orkest van de 18e Eeuw op zoek naar manieren om zichzelf te vernieuwen. De benadering van de muziek en hoe die gepresenteerd wordt is kritisch, nieuwsgierig, onderzoekend en vooruitstrevend. Hierdoor blijft het iconische repertoire dat het orkest uitvoert springlevend.

The recorder in the leading role
Those who associate the recorder with children’s songs and compulsory lessons at music school have probably never heard Dutch recorder player Lucie Horsch. The 25-year-old Horsch, winner of the Nederlandse Muziekprijs, an Edison and an Opus Klassik Award, is a passionate advocate of the quality and usability of music for recorder throughout the ages. The Voice of the Recorder focuses on music by two Baroque composers who both had a love for this small instrument: the Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi and the German Johann Sebastian Bach. Where Bach’s music is characterised by counterpoint and structure, Vivaldi lets the recorder dance and shine. Inspired by Vivaldi’s approach, young Dutch composer Reza Namavar wrote a new work for Horsch and the Orchestra of the 18th Century especially for this concert. In this piece, Horsch will perform both as soloist and as musical director.

Founded by conductor Frans Brüggen and violinist Lucy van Daal, the orchestra gained world fame in the early 1980s by performing large symphonic repertoire on original instruments. Since then, the Orchestra of the 18th Century has continued to look for ways to renew itself. Its approach to music and how it is presented is critical, curious, inquisitive and progressive. This keeps the iconic repertoire performed by the orchestra alive and kicking.
