Join us for a night of queer independent cinema, as part of the new Liberatory Visions event series. This carefully curated program consists of five independent short films by queer filmmakers from Palestine and Lebanon, each examining the intersection of gender and sexuality with the ongoing struggle for a liberated Palestine.
Blessed Blessed Oblivion, Jumana Manna (2010)
Blessed Blessed Oblivion weaves together a portrait of masculine performativity in East Jerusalem, as manifested in gyms, body shops and hair dressing parlors.
Mondial 2010, Roy Dib (2014)
Mondial 2010 is a film on love and place. A Lebanese gay couple decides to take a road trip to Ramallah. The film is recorded with their camera as they chronicle their journey. The viewers are invited through the couple's conversations into the universe of a fading city.

A heartfelt conversation with Sultana of New York, a Palestinian drag queen, performer, and artist. Sultana's Reign weaves Sultana's love of celebration and her everlasting commitment to be true to herself.

A father gives his son a ride to the airport. The car stops working on the way, providing them with an opportunity to reconnect.
Mariam, Reem Jubran (2021)
Zaid, a young, Arab-American, amateur drag queen, has to confront his conservative father and grandfather, who suffers from Alzheimer's, about his identity.
All profits from this event will be donated directly to alQaws for Sexual & Gender Diversity in Palestinian Society, a civil society organisation at the forefront of vibrant Palestinian cultural and social change, building LGBTQ communities and promoting new ideas about the role of gender and sexual diversity in political activism, civil society institutions, media, and everyday life.
This event is part of Liberatory Visions, a new event series exploring themes of freedom, resistance and liberation through independent film, talks and workshops. Our hope is for the series to inspire cross-movement solidarity and collaboration. No one is free until we’re all free; we invite attendees to collectively imagine and contribute to a future where this vision is a reality.
