Kino for your Ears #3

A listening series for the music makers and sound lovers of Amsterdam. Kino for your Ears takes place in the Ventilator Cinema on the second floor of the OT301. Although slightly hidden at first, its secret cafe space + cinema are a delight. The listening sessions are meant to be a space where both audience and performers can be open to dialogue and experimentation. Do you have an idea or something you wanna try ? Omarleen

Omarleen (b. 1997) is a Syrian-Dutch sound artist and Image researcher based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She holds a bachelor’s degree from ArtEZ University of the Arts and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Artistic Research at The Royal Academy of the Arts in The Hague. Omarleen’s practice has evolved from a deep engagement with the realm of imagery, exploring the documentary form and its intricate connections to fiction and desire. Transitioning into sonic research to work with improvisation and noise, eventually crafting compositions using field recordings, old cassette tapes, and electronic noise. Her unique approach intertwines visual and auditory realms through diverse storytelling mediums. Influenced by Arabic maqams, various poetic singing traditions like the Iraqi Shiaa Latmyaat and Levantine Mawaweel, as well as the rawness of noise improvisation.

What can a chair tell us about the fault lines of a proclaimed modernity? A multimedia investigation into saplings, sawdust, and supply-chains takes us from primordial times to dystopian futures. The assemblage of three Utrecht based artists presents an entry to the psychedelic world of chairs in four acts. Best enjoyed sitting down.
