ŠUMSKI (Croatia)
post rock, kraut rock, new wave
Šumski is one of the most well-known alternative bands in Croatia. Founded in Zagreb in 1991, from the very start they were noted to be one of the most unusual acts appearing on the scene. With their performance and inspiration falling well outside of the popular genre brackets of the day, Šumski created their own musical landscape, full of experiments and unexpected arrangements, within which kraut rock, world music, psychedelia, new wave, animation soundtracks, noise, avant-pop and electronics all take up their place equally. Their ‘sound without borders’ is akin to Can, Faust, Blurt, Captain Beefheart but also the movies of Jacques Tati and the books of Blaise Cendrars.
