WORM 25 Anniversary Celebrations kickoff with films, music and empanadas!
On the 7th of September, CINEMA COLOMBIANO returns with the ninth edition of their annual film festival! WORM is celebrating its 25th anniversary, which means something special is being organized. More information will be shared soon! We can already tell that, aside from the film program (see below), we will close down in Rotterdam with a club night featuring Bclip. He is one of Colombia’s prominent cultural leaders, influenced by the Picó and ghetto “crossover” parties, and⁠ recognized for his exploration of the little-documented Colombian guaracha musical genre.
The program is curated around the theme ‘Echando Cabeza‘, with which you are invited to think about the role of memory and archives in Colombian cinema and music. You can expect films that make use of personal or forgotten archives to create alternative stories about the country, as well as films that speak directly to the diasporas. And in WORM, the recently restored Pepos (1983) will be shown, highlighting 80’s youth culture in Bogotá, a screening made possible through the hard work of archivists, restorers and cinephiles. Furthermore there’s a lecture by Juan D. Montoya-Alzate, author of the book Caribbean Palimpsests: Music and Heritage in Northern Colombia (2024). And of course you can expect some delicious Colombian food during the event!
